Ancita Yazzie was born of the Bitter Water Clan around the Pine Springs Area. She wove with great pride and with careful attention to every detail. All of her rugs are reputed to have a very tight weave, especially her large ones. She believed that the feelings she put into her weavings were as important as the colors and the quality of the wool used. Ancita not only sheared the sheep and dyed her own wool from vegetal dyes, she also built her own looms. She was a traditional Navajo, and she never spoke of her weavings or let anyone see them until they were completed. She enjoyed sharing her knowledge and love of weaving with her family members, especially her grand-niece, Marie Begay, whom she taught to weave masterfully.
