Martha AppleleafMartha Appleleaf is the daughter of Carmelita Dunlap (who was a niece of the famous Maria Martinez).  Martha has been an active potter since 1970. She and her son, Erik Fender, are both featured in Rick Dillingham’s book  Fourteen Families. She has taken 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons at Santa Fe Indian Market and Eight Northern Arts and Crafts Show. Martha is especially proud of her black on black style which uses a more green colored slip for the matte, as well as the traditional feather motif. She also incorporates stylized rain clouds and water motifs.  She continues to do both black on black and the red pottery, as well as polychrome and some more modern styles.

She signs her work: Martha Appleleaf (with an apple)
