The is a rather rare storyteller by husband-and-wife team Paul and Dorothy Gutierrez. They are well known for creating wonderful little critters such as buffalo, bears, turtles, etc. as well as mudhead storytellers. They did not often make typical storyteller figures.

In this wonderful example, the modeling has been done by Dorothy while the sanding and polishing has been done by Paul. They began creating miniature mudhead figures in 1976 and were among the first to depict them in a storyteller style. Soon after, Dorothy and Paul made a few traditional storytellers with children climbing over and around the seated figure.

In this figure, the adult is telling the story while six children climb over and around him. The adult figure has been left with a matte finish, while the children have highly polished bodies. Their faces are matte finishes, as are their legs. As the mouths of the storyteller and the children are all open, perhaps everyone is saying a favorite portion of the story or song.

This is a wonderful piece to add to your storyteller collection by award winning pottery artists.
