Lena Boone Turquoise Fox

Item Number: DR 3046
Pueblo: Zuni Pueblo
Artist: Lena Boone
Medium: Turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, and sinew
Dimensions: 2 ½” X 7/8”

This little bushy tailed fox is carved from green turquoise and has bright shining coral eyes. He has a bundle on his left side made up of a mother of pearl arrowhead with coral and blue turquoise. The brown matrix in the green turquoise adds a dimension of depth to the lovely coloration of the little fetish.

The fox is quick and observant. He approaches life with amusement and cleverness and can make himself invisible when threatened. Many aspire to become foxlike when presented with an uncomfortable situation– to make no quick moves and to plan carefully.

Fox fetishes will be similar to wolves but with elongated, fluffy tails. Often their facial features will be very delicate with pointed ears and nose.

Offering Bundle – Many fetishes have an offering bundle, or adornment tied on the back of the animal that consists of coral seed beads, shell heishi, feathers and other stone pieces. The bundle may be used as an offering to the fetish, to evoke the spirit of the fetish or to increase the strength of a fetish.
