Description

Diorite is usually grey to dark-grey in color, but it can also be black or bluish-grey, and frequently has a greenish cast. Diorite has an often speckled appearance and a texture of coarse grain. It is a relatively rare rock   Diorite is an extremely hard rock, making it difficult to carve.

This charming little frog seems to have a smug look on his face, as if he had just swallowed a delicious bug. He has coral eyes and a speckled body – very frog like in appearance. He is signed on the bottom by the artist.

Frogs are some of the oldest and most commonly carved Zuni fetishes. This little guy, with all of his speckles and coral eyes, is quite charming.  Frogs are considered a major rain-bringing fetish and as so are very important to the Zuni who live in an arid portion of the southwest. Frogs also represent abundance and fertility.
