Description

Rare polychrome basket with a four petal design.

This is flared basket features very close coiling of Yucca and Devil’s Claw around Beargrass bundles. The banded four petal design done in three different colors of grasses and willow seems to be an original design of the weaver. It is finished around the top rim edge with a cross-stitch of Devil’s Claw. This basket is simply beautiful. Although the weaver is unknown, the hand coiled tradition involved in the creation of this Pima Indian basket is a tribute to her skills as a basket maker.

Condition: Excellent – original condition with a very tight weave and no apparent stitch loss. There is minor discoloration on the bottom of the basket.
Provenance: Acquired from a private collector in Arizona
