This is a wonderful little bird plate created by hand by a master potter. It is cream slipped and painted with traditional designs including rain, feathers, kiva steps and mountains. Predominantly on either side of the wings are the symbols of corn, which is so important to the pueblo.

This charming bird plate might be used to hold goodies or personal treasures – for it was made by a living treasure who helped revive pottery making at Jemez Pueblo.  Juanita says she learned to make these plates from her mother, Rita Magdalena.
