Pueblo: Zuni Pueblo
Enrike Leekya comes from one of the most cherished families of Zuni carvers. He has a very distinct style that is very detailed and often humorous.
Enrike Leekya is the great-grandson of famous fetish carver Leekya Deyuse, who requested that all of his children take his first name as their surname.
Enrike has been working on fetishes since he was very young. He would watch and help his grandfather, Francis, as he carved. Enrique sold his very first carving at age fifteen. Although is work is similar to his father’s carvings (who carved in the traditional style of his father, Leekya Deyuse), Enrike carvings are more modern and have a great deal of character and expression in their faces. His work is found in galleries and museums throughout the Southwest.
