Description

Dominique’s newest style blends her traditional highly polished pottery with unpolished micaceous slip accents. This elegant seed jar has a brilliant high gloss polish and is fired to a deep orange-red. The languid vertical bands of glittering micaceous swirl gently over the bowl like the lazy Jemez River flows behind her home at the pueblo.

A lovely bowl of natural beige clay is covered in a slip of red Jemez clay, and enhanced with a carved, wavy band. The red slip is stone-polished to perfection as a satiny gleam; the carved band shows the underlying beige clay, painted with a slip of glittering micaceous clay, for a beautiful contrast. The result is, in a word, gorgeous!

Dominique specializes in handmade micaceous pottery. She gathers her materials (natural pigments) for her masterpieces from the grounds within the Jemez Pueblo. She cleans, mixes, hand coils, shapes, sands, fires outdoors, and polishes her own pottery. It is very labor intensive, but what beautiful results! Created entirely hand-to-eye, this jewel of a pot is impeccable in every way.

She was quoted as saying “All the pots that I create are my favorite, because each one is a part of me.”
