Description
Rose Gonzales is often considered the first at San Ildefonso Pueblo to make carved pottery. This lovely carved jar is very highly polished with a glassy shine to the surface. The shape is her classic sharp shoulder and sloping neck. The deeply carved symbols are of the mountains and rain, elements that are so precious to the pueblo area. It is signed “Rose” on the bottom in the clay.
Condition: Very good- original condition with a few scratches as are appropriate for a piece that is over 50 years old. There is some slight water discoloration along the rim on one side.
Provenance: From the Estates of Clarence Ellsworth and Iron Eyes Cody through Victor Buck at the High Noon Show.
