Description
This beautiful piece by award-winning artist Russell Sanchez combines both highly polished red and buff slipped clay with inset heishi, topped with a beautiful shell shaped lid. The lower body is highly polished and contrasts with the matte finish of the upper buff slip. These colors are separated by impeccably inserted rows of very tiny shell heishi, whose soft brown colors perfectly accent the red and buff of the pot. Russell only uses the finest heishi hand-made by the Calabaza family of Santo Domingo Pueblo. The glossy lid is again the red and is accented with a perfectly formed shell perched atop. When incorporates Russell’s view of nature.
