Description
This bowl is very well made and has outstanding simplicity in its melon shape design. This small bowl was fired in an oxygen reduction outdoor pit covered with manure to give this piece of pottery its dark black color. After firing, the artist used polishing stones handed down in through family generations to polish the bowl smooth and to give it the glossy shine. Although difficult to read, the bowl is signed on the bottom by the artist. Pottery from Celestina Naranjo is quite rare and very collectible.
Celestina was Teresita Naranjo’s aunt. She exhibited each year at Santa Fe Indian Market from 1985-1996 winning numerous awards and recognition.
