Description
Ivan Lewis, son of famed Lucy Lewis Acoma potter, did not make pottery bowls generally. His specialty was figurines, especially cowboys and mermaids. He and his wife, Rita, corroborated on the storytellers she made. This polychrome stew bowl is Ivan’s very first bowl. It is covered in the typical white slip of Cochiti and decorated in black geometric designs down the sides. The rim is painted black and has a ceremonial break. Although nicely formed, this bowl is rather heavy and thick.
