Description

This is a beautiful large black-on-black dough bowl which is very symmetrical with a beautiful design and excellent polish. The black color is actually a bit toward chocolate brown. The bowl features a high gloss stone polish and has been traditionally fired in a pit with manure using natural pigments. The design is the tulip pattern, frequently used by Santo Domingo potters. This bowl has the double line above and below the design field which is in the center of the bowl. It is interesting to note that Rafaelita Aguilar signs her pots with her name and her post office box on the bottom of the bowl.

Condition: Excellent- original condition
Provenance: Purchased from owner’s estate. She received this from Rafaelita at the pueblo.
