Description
This one is something quite special and unique from Elizabeth and Marcellus!
Although they are traditional potters who use traditional designs, this is not your traditional design from these magnificent award-winning potters. Marcellus called this the “critter pot” because it has a total of 62 critters swirling around it. There are 15 butterflies; 7 hummingbirds; and 56 birds with 6 babies!
Elizabeth made this fabulous piece by hand coiling the pot and firing it outdoors. Marcellus meticulously painted several varieties of ‘critters’ all around the piece. Along with a variety of hummingbirds and butterflies, you will find robins, swallows, parrots, even pregnant birds with tiny eggs or babies in their bellies.
Elizabeth and Marcellus Medina are a highly respected Zia Pueblo husband and wife team who create remarkable pottery, as well as paintings. Elizabeth makes traditional pottery with perfection; Marcellus paints the intricate details on her pieces. This wonderful olla is a substantial size, measuring 12 ½” by 10 ½”.
