Kelly Haney chose to use the features of his grandfather, Willie Haney, to personify the Sac and Fox Warrior. This strikingly composed oil painting has a story to tell through the mature eyes of a warrior.

The warrior’s face stares out into the present as his facial expression seems to reflect a wariness. The lines and wrinkles on his face depict a long life. The set of his mouth speaks of a determination and endurance. His eyes are filled with lessons learned from a hard life. This mature warrior wears an amulet around his neck and a bear tooth and bear skin necklace. These would have been signs of bravery and high esteem in the tribe.
