Turquoise has been mined in China for over 6000 years, producing beautiful high grade stones. Many of the mines in China are now shutting down due to the limited supply of turquoise; just like the mines in the United States. As is true here, much of the Chinese turquoise in the past several years has been stabilized to protect the beautiful colors of the stones. One side effect of this process is that the stones will not absorb lotions and body oils as easily, meaning the stones are not likely to change color over time.
