Description
Marcella specializes in hand coiled contemporary swirl and melon styled pottery.
This gorgeous vase is a deeply carved melon shape with a long neck separated by a matte finish zig zag pattern. The geometric design within the zig zag is black on a light buff background. This highly polished vase is quite striking.
Marcella makes beautiful swirl pots. She stone polishes her red ware and tan ware pottery. She gathers her clay and other natural pigments within the Jemez Pueblo. To create the clay, she soaks the raw earth, grinds it to a powder form, and then cleans the clay. It is now ready to hand mix. Once the raw material is turned into a malleable clay, Marcella hand coils, shapes, and carves each piece of pottery. Her paints are made with native plants found in the Jemez Pueblo. She polishes her pottery with a stone and fires her pottery outdoors with cedar chips.
Marcella proclaims, “Pottery is the way of my life. I was raised to create beautiful works of art.” She has won numerous ribbons and continues to exhibit at several shows around the country, including Santa Fe Indian Market.
